Alimosho City Plan 2012 (Nigeria)
I collaborated with the Master Planning team to develop a vision for Alimosho, focusing on researching and assessing the area’s cultural heritage, as reflected in its remaining buildings. The study covered 14 settlements that share common cultural practices and physical characteristics, mainly influenced by the Awori and Yewa tribes.
Our findings revealed that Alimosho has few landmarks of historical or architectural significance. The urban landscape is largely shaped by 20th-century public buildings, such as transport terminals, schools, and formal markets. Additionally, the distribution of buildings and monuments is uneven, with mosques, churches, prayer grounds, shrines, palaces, and town halls concentrated in specific areas.
To support academic, administrative, and development control efforts, we classified, inventoried, and documented the historic built environment. This process ensured that future development plans would take the area’s heritage into account. The project’s final phase focused on plan implementation, with seminars, workshops, and field trips held in the UK for capacity building.
